Guest Speaker Deb Wilmot

Deb Wilmot is not only the owner of Gracious Giving in Maryland Street Stanthorpe, but a gracious giver in her life.  Deb was Southern Downs Citizen of the in 2021.  She spoke at our Rotary meeting about the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group she is a member of.  This group fundraises and supports locals.  Deb said they have a motto, " Walk the line and we'll walk it with you".  Personally she has lost loved ones to Cancer as have many in our community.  Funds raised from this local Cancer Support Group support locals in Stanthorpe and district.  Recently a "high luncheon" fundraising event was held at the Granite Belt Brewery and raised over $11,000.  Deb said that this fundraising was targeted to revamp two rooms at the hospital for comfort of patients and families in Acute ward and Palliative Care.  This group works closely with the hospital staff and nurses to provide assistance where families are struggling with costs of treatment.

There are also times when a sufferer needs assistance with travel expenses, accommodation, and other out of pocket expenses.  Deb and the support group are there to help.

During Covid this group funded a thermal imaging machine which now is in the Palliative Care room.  

A current project is raising funds for two wheelchairs that lay back into beds at $6000 each.
