John Vichie – PHF

John was born in Stanthorpe and has lived here all his life. His first job was with the National Bank which gave him his interest and knowledge of finance. After he left the bank, he bought his first business, Auto Pro. This later became part of John Vichie Firearms.
His community interests are varied. He’s been a member of the Tennis Club, The Squash Club and the Dance Club. John has also been a member of the Historical Society (Treasurer for 9 years) and the SES. Due to his experience in banking, he often holds the treasurer position in his community groups.
John is a member of Ballandean Clay Target Club where he was an office bearer for some years. He is also a member of the Ballandean Rural Fire Brigade. John was the radio controller for the Stanthorpe Fire Brigade from 1992-1996.
He and his wife Lisa are members of the Stanthorpe and District Pipe Band. They can be seen at many functions providing the community with great music. John plays the side drum. He’s been the treasurer of the Pipe Band as well as teaching the newcomers to the band. John has also been the drummer for the Stanthorpe Concert Band.
John is also involved with military vehicles. He is a member of the Military Jeep Club of Qld.
He has been a valued member of the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe since 2000. In this Club he has held many positions and carries out his duties quietly and efficiently. John is always there for our community activities when work commitments allow. His actions and behaviours show he honours the Rotary motto: Service above Self!
Vicki Cavanagh- PHF
Vicki and Thomas bought The Summit Shop and Post Office in 1993. They moved there from Brisbane.
Vicki’s community involvement started when their son Patrick went to The Summit school where Vicki held a position on the P & C Committee.
Her volunteering continued after they moved to Stanthorpe around 2001. She joined both the Stanthorpe Primary School P & C and the Stanthorpe State High School P & C where she held the position of treasurer for many years. She also worked in the Tuckshop in both schools as well as the Text Book Office.
Vicki is a Life Member of the RSL Ladies Auxiliary. She also held the office of Treasurer for around 5 years.
She has been a member of the Granite Belt Wildlife Carers for about 10 years. She holds the position of treasurer on this committee.
Since 2016, Vicki has been the treasurer of CDS Ins. (The Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre) and a very important member of the GBNC management committee. Within the challenges of this complex organisation, Vicki has been instrumental in improving systems in all areas of the Neighbourhood Centre.
All these organisations have benefited from Vicki’s time and commitment. She goes above and beyond in her care and concern for her community and for all the people she works with. She will assist others where she sees a need without hesitation. A recent example of this was assisting a committee member in her home when she was unable to do so after a stay in hospital and doing her weekly shopping; and also filling in with Meals on Wheels deliveries at short notice.
The Rotary Club of Stanthorpe would be honoured to acknowledge Vicki’s community service with a Paul Harris Fellow. She is a quiet achiever with great compassion for others. What a great world it would be if there were more community minded people like Vicki!
