President Julia's Message

Yeah, we finally managed to hold the two events that COVID-19 kept shutting down -   the Inaugural Autumn Race Day and Welcome to Stanthorpe.  Both were well attended and these two events will be returning to our program annually.  The photos I took on the day are posted to our webpage album and stories. There have been some wonderful photos posted on facebook and on the Ballandean Estate website.     Thank you everybody!

AUTUMN RACE DAY

It was 2 years in the making from one idea thanks to our Rotary Club of Stanthorpe Events Chair and Ballandean Estate Host Leeanne Gangemi.

After holding successfully 27 years of Opera in the Vineyard, this inaugural Charity Event needed to be a success or come up with something new.  Everybody who attended agreed, this is a fun way to fundraise for Charity.  We missed out because of covid19 last year, but this year, we got it off the ground and everybody had a great time and will be back with friends next year.  Our MC PDG Ross Smith was exceptional and our Race Caller Ian Henderson kept the fun and action fast past and moving along.  A great day.  Thanks to all the Rotarians and Friends of Rotary for their contributions both in donations for the multi draw prizes, the winners prizes and most of all for their time planning, setting up and taking down.  The new committee will begin planning in June for next year.  Have a look at the photo album on our homepage website.

JOKE

A science teacher tells his class, "Oxygen is a must for breathing and life. It was discovered in 1773." A student responds, "Thank God I was born after 1773! Otherwise I would have died without it."

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you all on Monday at the International Club.

Satellite News.
Satellite Club members met on Wednesday for the second time at Stanthorpe High Hospitality Café. It was an excellent meal with Greek Salad Entree, Thai Red Curry and Chocolate Brownie Slice for dessert. Our menu is always a surprise as it depends on what the Hospitality students are learning at the time. So far we are impressed and are pleased to be able to help in their training by being their customers.

We had 3 guests: Linda, Nathan and Luke, who all connected with Rotary through the Welcome Evening on Monday. In Linda’s words, she was impressed with the vibe in the room on Monday and how happy everyone was in each other’s company. Such a compliment to all our Rotary Club of Stanthorpe members!

Our Pantry Project has benefitted from receiving a grant for equipment. We will be using the equipment on Sunday 30 May at Suttons for our next Cookup. Come join us… we have a great time, and make lots of produce. 8am start (or soon after). Call Ann for more information. 0402 037 358.

2021 Spooky Walk/Drive In is under way. A committee has been formed followed by a brief discussion on what the event could look like. More news soon. If you would like to join the Spooky committee, please contact Paola on 0468 785 613.

Our next meeting is Zoom on May 27th then at Stanthorpe High Café on Wednesday 9 June. Our Guest speaker will be our own Rotarian Melissa Pascoe (Head of Department) who will give a presentation on the Hospitality program at Stanthorpe State High School. All welcome. Please text Leanne Wilkinson by Monday 7 June 10am for catering purposes.
