NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT.

G’day Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone who rolled up to the Model T BBQ to help. It was a successful event and a profit of around $350 should be made. (All accounts haven’t been received yet to finalise.)

The suits donated to Granite Belt Water Relief have been moved to the International Club. Thanks go to Jim Barnes for organizing this project.

The Men’s Health Van (MHERV) will be arriving in our town on September 29/30. This will be a good flag waving exercise for Rotary.

Please check the calendar for the next events. Karma is in need of helpers on August 14 for a fund raiser. If you have an RSA certificate, she could use your assistance.

Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday, August 9 for the next dinner meeting.
Jim

August is Membership Month, which means it’s time to celebrate your Rotary club, your members, and the good you do in your community and around the world.
There are many ways to join in the celebration, but here are a few activities to get you started:
  • Say it loud, say it proud! Let everyone in your social network know that you are a proud member by changing your Twitter and Facebook profile to the I’m a Proud MemberI’m a Proud Rotaractor, or I’m a Proud Interactor graphic. Copy and save the graphic as your profile picture for August.
  • Watch and share. Download RI President Gary C.K. Huang’s video on membership from Rotary’s Vimeo page. Watch it at your next meeting or club event to highlight the vital role membership plays in maintaining a strong and active club.
  • Exchange ideas. Do you have successful membership strategies that have worked well in your community? Share them on the Membership Best Practices Discussion Group.
  • We Are Rotary. Using the hashtag #WeAreRotary, post photos to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Vine of your club members at work in your community or abroad to show how Rotary makes a positive impact in the world.
  • It’s Now or Never. Join us on August 13 at 10:00 Chicago time (UTC-5) for our Membership: It’s Now or Never webinar. It will feature international membership expert Nikki Walker discussing innovative ways of thinking about membership.
  • Making a difference. Rotary clubs are known for the high-impact service projects they undertake locally and globally. Share stories about your service projects and how they improve lives on Rotary Showcase. Be sure to follow us on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram to see what Rotary members around the world are doing to celebrate Membership Month.
  • What does Rotary mean to you? Rotary members have pushed polio to the brink of eradication, delivered clean water to those in need, improved their local communities, provided scholarships to the next generation of peacemakers, and continued to do good in the world.

At the Model T Ford BBQ - What do you think they are discussing? Maybe why Jim doesn't have a jumper on when it was freezing!!
We'd love to present to your Rotary club!

My name is Forest Resener and I'm the Operations Director for StoveTeam International, a nonprofit organization started by a Rotarian. We are working in Latin America to save families from the dangers of open-fire cooking. The cookstoves we provide not only help families avoid respiratory illnesses, which account for 4 million deaths every year, but they also provide local employment and prevent CO2 emissions! Our innovative approach has won StoveTeam numerous awards, and resulted in the donation of over 78,000 cookstoves to date. But around the world, we are still nowhere close to addressing this issue on the scale it deserves.

To raise awareness for this devastating issue, we developed an engaging and informative interactive pre-recorded video presentation, specifically for Rotary clubs. The video follows the same format as a standard Rotary program, while allowing us to show your club the issue of open-fire cooking firsthand and give an inside look at our programs. We have received an incredible response from Rotary clubs so far!

How it works
To show the video during your meeting, just share your screen and click the link below to start the video. Please note that I will not be able to attend the meeting, but I will be there in spirit via the interactive video. We have a small staff of only three directors and we are dedicated to remaining focused on our programs. We truly appreciate your understanding.
  • The video includes a 23 minute presentation, plus a Q&A session at the end where the meeting host can click on questions to display an answer video.
  • Promotional information can be found here: stoveteam.org/rotary-video
  • Important: Let me know the date you plan to show the video so I can make sure it will be active!

After the presentation
  • Let us know whether the club enjoyed the presentation. We will be thrilled to hear from you! And feel free to share the link with other clubs or individuals.
  • Please share the following link via email and social media, so that club members can continue to connect with us: stoveteam.org/next-steps
Thank you for your consideration, Forest
