Sorry for the late bulletin this week. Life has been fairly hectic for me lately. Many of the notices are the same as last week, but congratulations to Jim Barnes on a well run and supported breakfast for Mental Health Day on 10th Oct.
Stanthorpe Rotary and members of the community celebrated World Metal Heath Day (October 10) with our Lift the Lid on mental illness Charity Breakfast. Held at the RSL, participants enjoyed a filling breakfast and listened to an enlightening talk from Sallyanne Keevers. Sallyanne is a counsellor and mental health first aid instructor. Funds raised were close to $400 and will go Australian Rotary Health for mental health research. The aim of the breakfast was to raise awareness of mental health and from the feedback the breakfast was successful in this respect.
A message from Youth chair Nicole Clarke
RYTS and RYLA are a couple of youth programs open for nominations at the moment. We currently have a few candidates in mind but would like to ask if any of the Monday Club members would know of anyone interested in attending these seminars.
RYTS is a seminar from 3-9 December 2018. This program is aimed at young adults around 17-18 years of age. The program focuses on the development of skills needed to make the transition from school to post secondary education and employment. The cost of the awardee is $590 and is located at Tyalgum NSW.
RYLA is a seminar from 2-7 February 2019. It is aimed at helping young people (between the ages of 19-28), the future leaders to realise their full potential and igniting their passion for life. The cost of this seminar is $650 and also located at Tyalgum NSW.
If anyone has any young people interested within these age groups please contact either Nicole Clark or Anne Richardson by next week so the nominees can be sent some information and the interview process can begin.
Reminder of an Opera meeting:
Meeting Notice
Tuesday 16 October, 4pm at the Country Club.
All members invited to discuss/brainstorm the way forward with Opera in the Vineyard.
We would appreciate all and any ideas to improve/change the format of the event to make it more profitable.
Board Members please note there is also a Board meeting at 5.30 the same day at the RSL
President Kim has reminded everyone, including the Satellite members that the DG is visiting on Monday 15th Oct and this is a Partner's Night as always. Please let Julie know attendance numbers.
Alec reminds us that we are catering for a group of "Carers" for lunch at Hal's Rotary Shell by Carnarvon Bridge on Wednesday 17th Oct. Alec is home and on his feet but will still be somewhat incapacitated so he would be pleased to have a couple of volunteers to help. We are providing a burger plus tea/coffee/juice/water for 30 people so do not need too many helpers.
With Spooky Walk fast approaching please make sure you are keeping the afternoon and evening of 31st Oct free to help. It is especially important that Monday Club members help with the setup for this event as most of the Satellite group are full-time working so they are relying on retiree members to help get things ready. This event was a great success at first run last year so please get behind it.
