President Julia's Message

Monday 31st, we dine at the Queensland College of Wine and Tourism (QCWT).  Our Club recognises  people in our community who go above and beyond job expectation in their workplace.  They get awarded Pride of Workmanship (POW).  This has been organised by Vocation Chair, Jim Barnes.  I do hope you can be there.

RI President Holger Knaack's theme for 2020-21, Rotary Opens Opportunities, asks Rotarians to create opportunities that strengthen their leadership, help put service ideas into action, and improve the lives of those in need. When I look at the projects undertaken by our Club in 20-21, I realise how busy we have been.  Thank you all for your community spirit.

This Friday 28th 4.30pm, we are catering with a BBQ at Heritage.  Satellite Club will be working on the Pantry Project this Sunday. Rotarians are people of Action.

Today I had my 1st astrazeneca vaccination shot.  If  we want to live full happy lives, we need to have the vaccination.  Polio is  almost irradicated in the world because of people saying yes to a vaccination.  It is unfortunate there is so much negativity in the media.

Joining with the Lions last Monday created an opportunity for our Southern Downs Youth Council representatives Harriet and Alex to demonstrate their understanding of Youth needs in our community to two Service groups, Lions and Rotarians.  Their objectives are to:

·         Develop a better understanding of the role and function of local government, our community and local issues;

·         'Have a voice' - raise issues, exchange ideas, discuss community issues, provide input into Council planning, programs and services and influence local government decision making processes; and

·         Have genuine and regular communication about issues that are important to them directly with the Mayor and Council Officers.

There will not be a meeting on Monday 7th June, many members will be writing reports for the annual report. Monday 14th June will be Club Assembly.  Melissa Pascoe will be the guest speaker at next Satellite Dinner meeting (see events below).

The Rotary Foundation
Each Bulletin Melissa will be teaching us a little more about The Rotary Foundation - what it does and how we can be a part of it.

The Centurion Program

The Centurion program is a convenient way to make a personal contribution to our charity, The Rotary Foundation.
Most clubs make contributions to The Foundation from funds the clubs raise but the Centurion program is personal. The contribution of $A100 a year is voluntary. It is renewed annually by you but you can request regular deductions if you prefer.
The funds are paid to the Australian Rotary Foundation Trust, going to either Polio Plus or the Annual Fund at your discretion. You contribution is recognised by the presentation of a personalised Certificate by your club each year.
To many, $A100 is not a major commitment but collectively it represents a major contribution to the Foundation. Your individual contribution counts towards a Paul Harris Fellowship and adds to your club’s Annual Giving total when you direct the funds to Annual Fund – in which case,  50% will come back to our District as District Designated Funds.
The completed forms must be sent direct to Rotary International at Parramatta who will issue the Tax deductible receipts.
Partners and friends of Rotarians are welcome to become Centurions and their support will be most welcome.

As an aide memoir, Centurion Towers, a convenient way to collect $100 in $2 coins from your change, are available from your club Foundation Chair.

It is nearly that time of year when we ask everyone to bring in your Centurion Towers full to the brim with $2 coins. Melissa will gladly accept them.
