Guest Speaker - 

Guest Speaker Marty Hansen talked to our Rotary Group on Monday evening about his experiences as Officer in Charge at the Stanthorpe Queensland Ambulance where he is currently posted for two weeks.  Thanks to Jim Barnes for organising Marty as Guest Speaker.

Marty is usually stationed at Goondiwindi where he has been working for the past 8 years.  Goondiwindi Ambulance Station reached an epic milestone of 100 years in March this year.

Marty is married with 2 children and enjoys his life as a Paramedic.  He came from a trade background in Data Communications and was fortunate to be able to learn Paramedics on the job.  Now days to join the Ambulance staff requires a minimum of 3 years University based Bachelor of Paramedicine and some complete the extra year which includes Nursing.  Marty speaks respectfully of the level of training, but believes it is on the job training that is required.  That experience is valuable.  Marty said there is a broad range of knowledge within the Queensland Ambulance and this experience assists in making the life at the station and on the job very interesting.  It is a life of shift work for Paramedics.

Marty has a great style of presentation and the Rotarians kept him very busy with questions which he answered with enthusiasm and knowledge.
