President Julia's Message
This Monday 12th April is for all Monday, Satellite and helpers.   We will discuss Autumn Race Day plans and final planning, followed by our Board Meeting.

I hope you had lots of Easter Eggs and enjoyed your Easter break and for those who are going on holiday with family and friends, Stay Safe and have a relaxing time.

I was so pleased to read the March District 9640 Newsletter and see our Stanthorpe Club Photos and read that DG Andy had been inspired by visiting our Club and by the words of a member of our Club. Thankyou DG Andy for that positive affirmation.

I received an email from our Bulletin Editor Melissa Pascoe reminding us to get our articles to her for the production of the bulletin and as you will know, March has been a blur and busy time for me and my family.  I looked at a note I had written, “Just Do It”.
I phoned around Rotarian Chairs and Board members and their support was amazing.  They had also seen Mel’s call for articles and were on to it. “The power of many begins with one.”

I realised as I was listening, that our Club has a very strong support base and we need to be proud of the way our individual members, both the Monday and Satellite groups under the one umbrella rally together to “Just Do It” and get the job done which is admirable to say the least.  Thank you one and all.  Wonderful to have three new members in our Club: Paola, Robyn and Jaqui and two more inductions coming up, Malcolm and Janet.  Welcome.

My March Blur:  Grief effects individuals differently.  It is not just about losing a family member, its about other losses or feeling of anxiety, not being able to carry out a responsibility, that can take us to the depth of despair.

Simplified, my major “pick me up” is my two acronyms.
SDDAGA & AMA
SDDAGA (The Dagger) is that stab that hits your heart mind and soul like a sword when something goes wrong or gives you emotional pain and distress.
Shock, Denial, Despair, Anger, Guilt, Anxiety.

To get Acceptance, I take a deep breath and concentrate on the use of my AMA (Armour) and work on my recovery, my acceptance of the reality of a situation.

I ask myself “Do you have the Ability to get through this?” “Do you have the Motivation?”
The trick for me is in the final “A” of my AMA: My Attitude
That requires me to change my attitude about a situation in order to achieve a positive outcome and move forward to Acceptance.

Works for me most days, I hope it may help you too.

Whether the Weather

Poem
Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We'll weather the weather,
Whatever the whether,
Whether we like it or not.

I was at a Social LNP meeting last evening and our fellow Rotarian Belinda Lister (Chair) presented me with condolences and this beautiful rose plant which will be planted at row 46 in our Just Red vineyard as a memory of son Terran who passed away in his 46th year.  Thank you to everybody for your kind thoughts and condolences.

Autumn Race Day

Hi folks, we will be discussing jobs for the Race Day.

We will be needing:

Saturday – set up – marquee (gcevents), table setting and marquee decoration, area for prizes to be picked up, BBQ area for General admission tickets, Bars – 1 in marquee, 1 out of marquee, ticket sales area, pick up portaloos.

Sunday – bookies, bars, bbq, ticket sellers, assistance with mult draw raffle, entry attendants,

The Race Day begins at 11am and finishes at about 6-6.30, so if you could think about what you might be able to help out with and when, we will discuss at the meeting on Monday night.

Don't miss this upcoming event!

Amiens State School Centenary.

A big ‘thank you’ to the fourteen vivacious volunteers who turned up to work on Sunday, April 30 at the Amiens State School Centenary. It was great to have David and Marlene Muir (retired member), Julie’s grandson Sam and Jo Bell from the Satellite Club to assist us on the day. We also had Geoff, Julie, Peter and Heather, Stephen, Jim and Gail, John and Lisa and Dave who drove to Sydney after he finished at Amiens! What a Briton! We were kept busy all day. There was a lot of food left over so perhaps some self -catering nights would help clean out the freezer. John may have information on costs and profit for the meeting.

Due to the COVID restrictions brought in on Monday, April 29 from 5:00 pm, the ‘Welcome to Stanthorpe’ night was postponed. Could the Membership Committee members stay after the meeting on Monday night to discuss changes to the invitation please? The new date proposed is May 10. See more information from Ann below.

Welcome to Stanthorpe evening: Rescheduled for Monday 10 May 2021.

We are having another go. Those who had RSVP'd are happy to still be included. Details of the program will be confirmed again over the next few days but can Rotarians all help by spreading the word and contacting/recontacting the newer members in our community to see if they may be interested in attending.

Note that RSVP is not necessary but recommended.

Rotarians are asked to pay $5 for the evening for their Nibbles grazing box.

Hard copy invites will be available at the meetings. and at Masquerade salon.

Any questions? Please contact Ann (Mob) 0402 037 358

Promoting awareness of dementia
A successful awareness street BBQ by the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe in collaboration with the Men's Shed was held on Friday the 19th of March.
The aim was to work towards making our community Dementia Friendly. A free sausage sizzle allowed us to connect with the local community.  Several brochures relating to aspects of dementia were made available.
The generosity of the community provided over $300 in donation to further the cause of making Stanthorpe a Dementia Friendly community.
Many thanks to Hamish at Amcal Chemist for the location and our Men’s Shed colleagues for their assistance. Thank you fellow Rotarians Dave Hambly and Fran Hodgson.

Notes from Fran

Rain on the roof and in the dams

How wonderful it was to hear the heavy, soaking rain falling on our parched lands over the past couple of weeks  and at last overflowing  the dams. The drought has broken(for the time being).

Just as many Rotary clubs and organisations helped us out in our time of need, I believe it is now our turn to help out those communities that are struggling with the overwhelming effects of the floods, especially in northern NSW. Interested in hearing your thoughts?

District Conference 15th May 2021

Are you coming to the District 9640 Conference at Twin Towns on May 15th?  There are a couple of Stanthorpe Rotarians going so you won’t be alone if you do want to come. It is only for 1 day this year  and the program looks interesting. It is a great way to meet other clubs and hear what they are doing?
