This year the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe celebrates 70 years of service.  Over the years  many residents have taken on membership and pursued the ideals of Rotary. At present our numbers are low but the club continues to provide service to our local community in a number of ways. Our focus for this year is that of community wellbeing and collaboration. Activities such as Dementia Friendly Stanthorpe, Ageing Well Seniors Morning Teas, Mental Health Charity Breakfast are a few that fulfil this role.
The  Rotary Clubs in the Stanthorpe district will be combining in their  support of a Rotary Ambassador entrant in the 2024  Apple and Grape Harvest Festival.
Some of our members will be at James Bundell’s Down on the Farm event next weekend supporting SMEAC veteran organisation with catering.
Guest speaker this Monday is Sandra Venn-Brown Zonta International Director and member of Zonta Club of Stanthorpe.

Rotarians at Play
Over the next few months there are some fun social events planned for members and friends.
We kicked off events last week with twilight bowls at Stanthorpe Bowls Club. Our numbers were few but we were able to mix with others. Although beginners, we played quite well (slight exaggeration).   Those who did not attend you missed out on lots of laughs and a great night. We must do it again.

Waste Not Pantry Project 🌳 & Satellite Club Update
Update supplied by Ann Richardson
The Satellite Club continue their fundraising bbq’s at the Markets in the Mountains.
Customers at previous Sausage sizzles had asked for egg and bacon burgers so that’s what was provided. They sold out and topped up with more! Great effort contributing to funds to send local kids to youth camps! The team made $404.75 in food and $72 in jam; total  $476.75

Over 600 bottles of preserves were labelled at the last Satellite meeting. We earned our shared dinner. Many jars are being delivered to School Breaky Clubs and to the Stanthorpe Food Support Scheme. 100 of the Apple and Grape Jam were put aside for Anna’s fundraising and another 100 or so special batches were stored for gifts and raffles. The highlight of the night was when Chair Leeanne announced that we won the District Rose Award for our Waste Not! Project.

Paula Passi gave us an update on the work by Safe Haven and Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre in the areas of homelessness and Domestic Violence. We are asking key operators to speak at meetings over the next months.

Another exciting speaker was Rachael Walker, a Stanthorpe High School teacher and former Interactor who has taken on the development of our Community Interact and will be the Advisor. She has connected with St Joeys (through Kayla Adams) and the Home Schooling group.

Interact Club to resume as Community Interact
Rachael is working towards starting Interact at the beginning of Term 3. Promotion and organisation will happen during Term 2. How wonderful to get Interact happening again! We will keep you informed.

April Maternal and Child Health Month
Every day mothers risk their lives giving birth and millions of children die each year from treatable, preventable causes. At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. To help reduce this rate, we provide immunizations and antibiotics to babies, improve access to essential medical services, and support trained health care providers for mothers and their children. Your Rotary projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local community to take ownership of health care training programs.

Make time for Laughter

Why did the scarecrow win an award?

Because he was outstanding in his field.
When we begin to take our failures non-seriously, it means we are ceasing to be afraid of them.
It is of immense importance to learn to laugh at ourselves.
Katherine Mansfield 1888 - 1923
