Back from a most rewarding trip to Nepal, with lots of inspiration about projects which Rotarians from many places are performing to improve the lives of the people of Nepal, who, on average have far less than we do, yet manage to remain cheerful friendly people. The devastation caused by the 2015 earthquake is still very evident. We distributed Days for Girls kits provided by the DFG groups in Gundy and the Gold Coast, to women and girls in remote villages and saw women in towns creating employment for themselves making this kits for local sale. Our Rotary hosts, the RC of Bhadgaon, were most hospitable and together with the leader of our group, Lois Beckwith, of RC Deloraine, were most generous in showing us projects such as an eye hospital, micro financed businesses,a training centre for hospitality training and of course the DFG projects already up an running. We attended the laying of the Foundation Stone for a Training Centre being supported by the RC's of Bhadgaon and Deloraine, and in the future Gondiwindi and hopefully Stanthorpe. Australian aid is contributing $60000 and the ambassador was present for the ceremony.
Next Monday evening we have our Opera planning night and on Tuesday afternoon anyone who would like to help with decoration preparations would be most welcome at Morwenna's house at the back of the nursery from 4pm onwards.
Thanks to Ann and Julia for information for this bulletin.
If anybody would like to make an Opera Giving Tree Donation, please do so on Monday evening so Mary and I know how many more items to purchase to meet the 100. We seem to be well off target this year.
Last meeting we were privileged to have Al Marbin as our guest speaker
She talked about her experience travelling around whilst Photographing Australia and all the great things about Australia. She has produced 4 wonderful books and several of us purchased one or two of these coffee table books.
We are delighted to announce our internationally renowned artists, husband and wife duo, Rosario La Spina and Miljana Nikolic.
